Participatory media : an exciting development

A free newspaper has been launched in London based entirely on blog posts.

http://theblogpaper.co.uk/

There's no editor; content is sourced from most highly-rated blog articles about the area.
“Instead of a few people controlling the majority of what is being published and therefore read, theblogpaper aims to put the majority in charge. We believe in the power of the community, rather than in the power of the individual.” - Blogpaper spokesperson.

The content writers aren't paid; the publishers say advertising will be used for funding.

Rhyl film-maker wins Prince's Trust award after battling bullying and depression

"A young woman who battled bullying and depression was hailed an
'inspiration' after picking up a top award. Sarah Bagley from Rhyl was
living in a hostel when she noticed the Prince's Trust was recruiting
volunteers. Over the next nine weeks she turned her life around,
helping make a film for the organisation. On Thursday night Sarah, now
25, was handed the Young Achiever of the Year at the Trust's annual
awards." - Ian Hughes, Daily Post, Wales

Rights and Digital Storytelling

the main points to consider when making your digital story - Lisa Jones maps them out.

Top Tip is to use your own.

Covers intellectual property, third party rights, impact on others, ethical considerations, etc. This is a great rough guide by an experienced Capture Wales practitioner:

Disclaimers:
This was the situation in Wales and England at the time Lisa wrote this (early 2008)
To be sure, always seek out your own legal advice first.

Polish your digital story

How to put the finishing touches to your script before you record your voice for your digital story, by Gilly Adams:

http://tr.im/dsfin

"...a story needs structure. The end needs to have some connection with the beginning to be satisfying. Think of stepping stones. When you reach the other bank of the river you should still be able to see the bank from which you started the journey."

To be impressed

Sheilagh called round Sunday night and we discussed all kinds of
thinks. One idea she raised stuck in my mind as a really good idea.
She told me of the time when she was in a school as a visitor and lots
of the children came up to her in the playground and said: "look at me
skipping, Miss!"; "look at how fast I can run Miss;"

Sheilagh's idea is simple: Have adults - who don't have a role of
authority and who don't discipline children - in school playgrounds,
not for any particular reason other than to be impressed by and
interested in children's achievements. Someone to listen.
